DAHR’s Hungarian MEP from Transylvania, Csaba Sógor emphasized the importance of common responsibility in the solution of the Roma issue: „The issue of the Roma’s economic and social exclusion has been a subject of debate only since the accession of the new member states. But this doesn’t mean that the problem did not exist before. Although the relationship between Roma communities and their neighbors hasn’t always been peaceful, these tensions have only intensified since the fall of communism”. »

We are living-diversity - is the motto of the congress of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). Since its foundation in 1949 FUEN represents the interests of the European autochthonous, national minorities. In 2009 the organisation will celebrate its 60th anniversary. »

We szekler, Hungarians of Transylvania message: Transylvania cannot be give to us, since Transylvania belongs not to the Romanian, it belongs to us, to us as well. Transylvania  is our common good! Fro twenty years they are trying to downtrodden us, to drive us away, but they had no success. We will not allow the history to reverse. – declared Markó Béla, at the DAHR manifestations in Targu Mures. »

The results of the elections show the real force of the Hungarian community of Transylvania

The Hungarian electors have understood the meaning of solidarity and the message of cooperation, which is how the DAHR managed to earn this unprecedently high score of almost 9%, at the European Parliamentary elections. – declared Markó Béla, president of DAHR, at his weekly press conference held in Bucharest this week. He added, because of this recognition, the Hungarian organization earned a score that high, which proves the real force of the Hungarian minority of Romania, and the discipline of the Hungarian voters, who attended in large numbers the elections. »

Results of the EP elections 2009

According to the latest official statistics, 5 035 297 of Romanian citizens took part at the European parliamentary elections, 431 739 voting the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania. In consequence, the RMDSZ earned 3 seats in the European Parliament. »

The DAHR will continue the protests after the elections

The DAHR will continue the protest against the relieving of the Hungarian leaders of the de-concentrated institutions after the elections as well, the more that its clear that this discriminative policy of the government is affecting the infrastructural development and investment process in Transylvania.  – declared Markó Béla on a press conference held this week in Targu Mures. »

15-th of March 2009 represents the opportunity of Hungarians in Transylvania to achieve the new solidarity of our entire community, so much needed in order to forge our European future. On this occasion, the MEP presented the activity of the DAHR MEP’s in the European Parliament, strengthening that this week, the European Parliament will take a decision on debating the Draft Resolution on National Minorities of the National Minorities Intergroup of the European Parliament. »

Draft Resolutions on National Minorities in the European Parliament

On the 5th of November in Brussels, in the European Parliament the National Minority Intergroup of the European Parliament and PER (Project on Ethnic Relations) organized the discussion New Approaches to Minority Rights in the European Union, dealing with two draft resolutions on national minorities to be presented in the European Parliament, intended to create a framework for approaching minority problems on European level. »

The foundation of a sustainable economic development is formed by small- and medium enterprises

“The sustainable economic development of the European Union in the next years will be carried out, only if we manage to strengthen the position of the over 23 million small and medium enterprises, since these insure over 4/5 of the newly formed workplaces.” – emphasized Winkler Gyula, DAHR politician, in his speech held in the plenary session of the European Parliament on Monday, 22nd of September.

We should guarantee community laws to the national minorities, and not charge them with collective guiltiness - Sógor Csaba promoted the increased protection of minorities in the Euroepan Parliament

- Hungary has borders with itself: the country lost 2/3 of its territory after the First World War. For the past 88 years, the Hungarian nation, now scattered in 3 million minorities, has struggled for its rights only with peaceful devices. The nearly twenty interest-representing organizations, for the sixth time already are discussing the possibilities of peaceful enforcement of interests, in the framework of the Consultative Council of the Carpathian-basin Representatives: preservation of identity and native language, economic connections, autonomies. »

Let`s bring the European Union closer – Winkler Gyula DAHR MEP welcomed the Romanian journalists

Winkler Gyula, DAHR representative in the European Union invited the a part of the Hungarian media representatives in Romania, to a 2 day journey to Brussels. Between 17and 19th of September the media representatives have the opportunity to gain insight into the European legislation and the EU institutional system. »

The endangered communities should have the right to education in their native language and that of self-determination

Sógor Csaba Hungarian MEP, held a one minute speech on the occasion of the meeting on fin-ugor communities, in Strasburg. The DAHR politician underlined: as also the Hungarian president mentioned, it is not enough for an endangered community to have a dance ensemble and a choir, but they also need education in their native language and should have the right of self-determination. »

Hans Gert Pöttering is glad for the electoral success of the DAHR
2008. 6. 15.

The president of the European Parliament, Hans Gert Pöttering met the president of DAHR, Mr. Markó Béla in Brussels. The president of the all since informed the EU politician about the results of this month’s election in Romania, underlining that in the first round of the elections, the nominees of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania won 148 mayors seats (8, 66% of the votes); four major counties – Harghita, Covasna, Mures and Satu Mare – will have Hungarian presidents at the County Council (10%), there will be a total of 2.195 DAHR members (5,45%) in the Local Councils, and 89 members (6,83%) in the County Councils. »

Markó Béla, president of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania offered a speech at the „Living Transylvania” named conference in Brussels. During his presentation the president of DAHR conjured the most important moments of the Transylvanian history, outlining the ethnical diversity of the area and mentioned that neither in Transylvania the Hungarian minority representing 20 % of the population is not evenly distributed across Transylvania.

"Common future in EU"

This upbeat message about the need for negotiations was echoed by Jakup Krasniqi - the Speaker of Kosovo`s parliament. "We have a common future in the EU and therefore we can sit together and talk and discuss." He welcomed the role that Europe could play in fostering more contacts; "we agreed on this initiative (the JPM) from European Parliament and we feel good that the European Parliament and EU in general have opened the new perspective for the countries of our region. »
